Reindeer: The dark comedy outpacing The Witcher on Netflix

"Reindeer", a series about a comedian who becomes a stalking victim, is smashing records on Netflix. The production can become one of the most popular proposals on Netflix in history. Soon, it may beat the records of "The Witcher" itself.

"Reindeer" introduces the story of Donny Dunne (played by Richard Gadd), an aspiring comedian who works as a bartender. At the bar, he meets Martha (phenomenally portrayed by Jessica Gunning), to whom he offers a complimentary cup of tea. Martha quickly develops a fascination with Donny, which soon turns into a dangerous obsession. From this point, Martha begins to invade Donny's privacy increasingly.

The series premiere was not without controversy. An anonymous woman alleges she was portrayed as Martha in the series and considers suing Netflix for defamation.

Additionally, Gadd faces accusations from a transgender actress and his former partner, who claims she was denied a role in the series. The controversy centres on the casting process, with allegations that Gadd refused to work with her following their breakup.

"Reindeer" has rapidly gained popularity since its debut on Netflix on April 11th. According to Deadline, in just under a month from its premiere, "Reindeer" attracted 60 million viewers. The viewership continues to grow - from April 29th to May 5th, the series notched up a remarkable 18.6 million views.

There's still a chance for "Reindeer" to climb into the top 10 most-watched English-language Netflix series. The first season of "The Witcher" holds 10th place in the ranking with over 83 million views. Consequently, Richard Gadd's series could surpass the hit featuring Henry Cavill in the lead role in the coming weeks.
