The British royal family has been experiencing challenging times for several months. Initially, news surfaced in the media about the cancer that King Charles III was battling, and then it was announced that Princess Kate had also been diagnosed with cancer.

Queen Camilla is unwell

At the end of October, Queen Camilla accompanied her husband on a trip to Australia. It has now been revealed that she is suffering from a respiratory infection, which will prevent her from attending upcoming scheduled events—the Olympic reception and the ceremony at Westminster Abbey in tribute to fallen soldiers. She will be replaced by Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester.

"Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest," Buckingham Palace conveyed in a statement published by the Daily Mail.

"With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal," the statement reads.

Princess Kate has completed chemotherapy

In March 2024, Princess Kate shared with the world the information about the cancer she is battling. She returned to her duties a few months later. On 9th September 2024, she announced the completion of her chemotherapy.

"The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown," she said in a video published on social media.

She also shared her personal thoughts on battling the disease.

"The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. (…) This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved. Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes," she said.
