Putin's falsehoods. Controversies following the interview
What did the conversation address? Carlson's opening question was about the motivations behind the conflict with Ukraine. "Do you genuinely believe the US could strike Russia?" Carlson asked. Putin replied that he had never entertained such a notion. He added that he expects to participate in "a serious interview, not a chat show."
Putin devoted 25 minutes to presenting his interpretation of history. He reiterated what he often asserts, that "Ukraine is artificially construed as a state" and has close historical ties with Russia.
He also repeated that the objective of the extraordinary military operation, as he officially terms the invasion, is to "de-Nazify Ukraine, which celebrates Nazi collaborators".
Putin accused Ukraine once more of neglecting to resolve the conflict. Putin assured that Russia will not lose the war in Ukraine. "This will never occur. I believe the Western powers now understand this," - Putin asserted.
