On Sunday, during the appearance at the headquarters of the Central Election Commission, shortly after the preliminary presidential election results were announced, Vladimir Putin confirmed that he agreed to the exchange of Navalny for Russian prisoners in the West.

- Yes, he died. It is always a sad event. We had other cases where people died. Didn't this happen in the US? There was an idea to exchange Navalny for those who are in Western countries, I agreed, we wanted to exchange him, so he would not return, but this (death - note ed.) happens, such is life - he said in an insolent manner.

The reaction from the deceased oppositionist's wife came after Putin's statement. - What a coward - wrote Julia Navalny on the X platform.

On February 16, the Russian authorities announced the unexpected death of Navalny. He was the most well-known political opponent of President Vladimir Putin. The politician died in a camp located beyond the Arctic Circle, where he was serving a 19-year sentence.

Latest reports indicate that Putin met with Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich shortly before Navalny's death to discuss the details of the planned prisoner exchange involving Navalny.
