Putin seeks US cooperation, vows stronger border security
Russia's leader, Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with the leadership of the Federal Security Service (FSB), expressed optimism about the possibility of establishing cooperation with the US administration. At the same time, he emphasised the need to strengthen the protection of state borders and counteract cyberattacks.
Vladimir Putin positively assessed the initial contacts with the American administration, indicating the readiness of both sides to engage in cooperation. The Russian leader presented his position during a Thursday meeting with the FSB leadership.
The Russian president urged a pragmatic approach to international relations, emphasizing the need to move beyond outdated perspectives. He argued that the policies of previous leaders had contributed to the crisis in global diplomacy and claimed that these entrenched views were now causing divisions within the Western community itself.
Prospects for international dialogue
Putin voiced confidence in the potential for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. He suggested that the current atmosphere, which he described as conducive to restoring relations between states, could help facilitate dialogue.
The Russian president also expects potential challenges in discussions with the United States. He warned that certain Western elites would attempt to disrupt the dialogue, pointing to economic and political issues in Western nations as reasons for his concerns.
Strengthening state security
The Russian leader paid particular attention to the country's security issues. He emphasised the need to introduce additional measures for the protection of state borders in the face of growing threats.
Putin pointed to the increasing number of cyberattacks aimed at Russia. In response, he announced the intensification of counterintelligence activities aimed at more effectively protecting the state's interests in cyberspace.
