As expected, the "election" for president in Russia was resoundingly won by the incumbent leader, Vladimir Putin. What plans does the Russian dictator have for his fifth term?

Vladimir Putin has recently secured his fifth presidential term. Rumours of a new wave of mobilisation grew only when, less than a week after the presidential election, terrorists perpetrated a deadly attack on a concert hall near Moscow.

According to two Kremlin insiders, Russia's "political elite" do not anticipate any unpredictable, far-reaching, or fundamental changes during the fifth presidential term.

It is now known that the Russian government will intensify its repression against dissidents, and Putin's main goal remains the war in Ukraine. Relations with the West seem irreparable.

However, this is not new, but simply an intensification of the existing situation - a source close to Putin's administration reported. - Regarding events and changes, Putin's new term began in February 2022, not now.

Will Putin respond to the ISIS attack?

The terrorist attack on the town hall in Crocus is unlikely to lead to significant changes in Vladimir Putin's plans.

Initially, I was shocked by the terrorist attack and then by the potential consequences. I considered a significant escalation, perhaps even the use of tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine - a Kremlin informant said. - Currently, the highest leadership does not make clear decisions but aims to calm citizens. There's already a set formula: if possible, avoid drastic actions - he adds.

New developments in the Russian political landscape will only be possible after the invasion ends or at least after some ceasefire is reached.

Although all of Meduza's sources are convinced that Putin intends to continue the war in Ukraine, their opinions on his goals vary. One of the sources believes that after Ukraine's failed counteroffensive, Putin sees Ukraine as weak and is ready to push forward to victory, even to Kyiv, no matter the cost.

If necessary, he will call for mobilisation. Will further shift the economy to a wartime level. He sticks to his principles - we read.
