Prison Break surges in Netflix's TOP10; Wentworth Miller's brave revelation revisited

"Prison Break" is a hit again. Yes, it's no mistake. After several years, the series with Wentworth Miller landed on Netflix and immediately found itself in the TOP10. Who remembers how the star's confession about his sexual orientation echoed around the world?

"Prison Break" primarily promoted two great stars of this production – Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. Purcell played a convict from the Fox River facility who ended up there for a crime he didn't commit. Miller portrayed the now-iconic character Michael Scofield, an engineer who wants to save his brother from death at any cost. When he learns that his brother is in the facility his firm renovated, he devises a plan to break him out. He tattoos the prison plan on his body, studies the histories of inmates, and then robs a bank to get caught and sent to Fox River. The series, which broadcasters initially didn't want to release, became a hit.

Wentworth Miller reveals he is gay

Now, after years, the series is back on top. It happened a few days ago when it was added to Netflix's library. This allows viewers to take a nice trip down memory lane - Netflix also shows the cult hit "Lost," which was previously available on Disney+. Older series have not lost their quality. In Poland, "Prison Break" landed in 6th place among the most-watched series just days after the streaming premiere with the giant. In the United States, Netflix users are even more eager to watch "Prison Break".

Let's remember that Miller was already a big star when, in 2013, he received an invitation to be a guest at a film festival in St. Petersburg. The 41-year-old actor, who had never publicly discussed his private life, or even more so his sexual orientation, decided to write a letter to the festival director, which was published by GLAAD, an organisation that fights for the rights of non-heteronormative people and their fair representation in media, films, etc.

"As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and who can say I have Russian ancestors, I would like to say that I accept this invitation. But as a gay man, I must decline," he wrote, shocking many people.

"I am deeply troubled by the recent reports about the treatment of gay and lesbian people by the Russian government. The situation is unacceptable, and I cannot, in good conscience, participate in an event held in a country where people like me are systematically denied the right to live and love," the actor said.

At that time, Vladimir Putin changed the law in Russia. Homosexual couples were banned from adopting children. Shortly before, the country's authorities classified "homosexual propaganda" as pornography, and its distribution began to be fined and punished with arrest.

After starring in "Prison Break," Wentworth Miller appeared in "Resident Evil: Afterlife" and then disappeared from show business for a few years. As he revealed, he chose to take a short retirement. When photos comparing his fit and muscular body from the past with photos showing him weighing more surfaced, he decided to write a long post. He revealed that he had quit acting for several reasons, one of which was suicidal thoughts.

"I suffered in silence. Like many people. Few knew what was happening to me. Ashamed and in pain. I felt broken. Voices in my head pushed me down a path of destruction. Not for the first time. I had struggled with depression since childhood. This war cost me many lost opportunities, relationships, and thousands of sleepless nights," he wrote when people began to criticise his appearance.

"In 2010, I was at the lowest point of my adult life. I was seeking relief in everything. It fell on food. I could have reached for anything else [...] but food gave me relief. I looked forward to the next meal or a new episode of ‘Top Chef.’ Sometimes that was enough for me. I gained weight. A big, damn deal," he wrote and admitted that when his "unflattering" photos started circulating in the media, he barely survived it.

Since 2014, Wentworth Miller began appearing in new productions. He could be seen in the film "The Loft," the lesser-known "Superhero Fight Club," and the series "Legends of Tomorrow." In 2017, he filmed "Prison Break: Sequel," and in 2018, he appeared in the series "The Flash."
