Good quality bras can start around £27. It's worth looking after them properly so they can last for as long as possible. This garment is prone to damages, especially if not washed correctly.

A gentle liquid instead of powder: A change in detergent can make a big difference

In a conversation with Dorota Wellman and Marcin Prokop, the bra fitting expert discussed the best way to wash bras. She stressed that hand washing them is best. The delicate elastane fibres found in every bra can be damaged during machine washing. In addition, the straps could stretch and distort the bra's circumference, affecting not only the bra's appearance but also its comfort.

The choice of detergent is also crucial. Classic powders aren't suitable because they can bleach and fade the bras' colour. It's best to use a special washing liquid designed specifically for delicate elastane fibres. Such cleaning products don't contain sulphates, bleaches, parabens, or SLS and can be found in bra fitting stores throughout Poland.

The washing temperature is also vital. The water should not exceed 30 degrees Celsius. Before washing, remember to fasten the hooks to prevent accidental damage. Immerse bras in water and let them soak for 15 minutes. Rinsing isn't necessary. After the quarter of an hour, gently squeeze out the excess water from the bra.

Washing bags - a hit or a miss?

If for some reason you need to machine wash your bras, it's worth considering investing in a wash bag. Mesh washing bags are suitable for soft bras without underwires, whereas plastic balls are better for structured bras. They prevent the bra from interacting with other clothes in the wash, avoiding excessive stretching of straps or distortion of the bra's shape. A hand wash cycle should be selected when using a machine. The temperature should also not exceed 30 degrees Celsius. As with hand washing, it's advised to use a gentle detergent free of harsh chemicals. By following these tips, your bra can serve you well for many years.
