Passenger dies after onboard altercation on Royal Caribbean cruise
A very unusual situation arose during a Royal Caribbean cruise from Los Angeles to Mexico. A video surfaced online showing one of the passengers causing a significant disturbance. The man was restrained and detained. Shortly afterwards, he died.
The victim was 35-year-old Michael Virgil. According to TMZ, dramatic events unfolded on the ship en route to Ensenada. A video posted online shows Virgil shouting and repeatedly kicking the door of one of the cabins in an attempt to break in.
Reports indicate that during the altercation, Virgil attacked several crew members and threatened other passengers with death. The ship's security used pepper spray, zip ties, and handcuffs to restrain him. The family claims he was also administered a sedative.
Virgil died about an hour after this incident, while under the supervision of the ship's security. The cause of his death has not yet been determined. It is noteworthy that the entire incident took place less than an hour after the ship departed from Los Angeles, and the motives for the deceased passenger's behaviour remain unclear.
Virgil's family, in an interview with Fox 11, stated that such behaviour was uncharacteristic of him and that he did not deserve to die as a consequence of this situation. Michael was travelling with his fiancée and seven-year-old son.
Royal Caribbean expressed sadness over Virgil's death and assured their support for his family and cooperation with the authorities.
