Parents urge caution after tragic death linked to baby slings
Parents of a deceased infant are warning against the use of baby slings. Their son died after suffocating in a sling.
The parents of little James Alderman, who died as a result of a tragic accident, have decided to warn others about the dangers associated with using baby slings. Their seven-week-old son, Jimmy, slipped from the sling while being fed and suffocated. Despite the swift response of his parents and paramedics, the boy tragically died three days later in hospital.
The incident occurred in 2023, when the boy's mother, Ellie, was preparing to leave the house. She placed her son in the sling and began feeding him, unaware that he had slipped. The father, George Alderman, recalls that everything seemed fine until he saw his terrified wife with their unresponsive son in her arms. "He was lying on his back and was pale, not breathing," he recalled to MailOnline journalists.
Warning regarding slings
Coroner Lydia Brown has now warned the British healthcare service, highlighting that parents have insufficient information about the safe use of slings.
Her report has been sent to Beco, a manufacturer of slings, and expert Madeleine Boot. James's parents are advocating for greater awareness and education in this area to avert similar tragedies in the future.
