Giant pandas are one of the most recognisable and beloved animal species worldwide. They primarily inhabit China. Although they are classified in the bear family, their diet consists almost exclusively of bamboo. These fluffy animals are a symbol of wildlife conservation because for many years they were on the brink of extinction.
Thanks to increased public awareness, their numbers are gradually rising. According to WWF: "In 40 years, the panda population has increased by 80 per cent, to 1,860 individuals. As a result, the International Union for Conservation of Nature has changed the threat level of extinction for the giant panda. Its status in the Red List of Threatened Species has been downgraded from 'endangered' to 'vulnerable' to extinction".
Adorable pandas take over the internet
The Berlin Zoo recently had a good reason to celebrate. On 22 August, two giant pandas were born there. The animals were under constant veterinary care until now. On the foreign zoo's Instagram, a joyful announcement appeared: "Our twin pandas are stable enough to no longer be dependent on the protective incubator environment, which they received in the first weeks after birth".
The sight of adorable animals touched many internet users. They couldn't hold back their comments of admiration: "there's just nothing sweeter than panda babies", "Both are so sweet. They both know how to charm people", "It's crazy how fast these sweet girls have grown", "How can they be so incredibly cute?"
Where and when can you see the little ones?
The Berlin Zoo has more good news for panda fans: "Starting tomorrow (16 October), the young animals can be admired in the Panda Garden every day for about an hour, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM Greenwich Time. One young animal will stay with mum Meng Meng, and the other can be seen in the indoor enclosure". Additionally, they assure that this is not the end of adorable panda cub videos on their profile.
