Orbán skips Trump inauguration for EU presidency duties
The Hungarian portal Telex reports that Viktor Orbán will not attend Donald Trump's inauguration. The Prime Minister of Hungary was one of the few European politicians invited to the ceremony.
Instead of travelling to Washington, the head of the Hungarian government is set to summarise in Budapest on 20 January the six-month presidency of his country in the EU Council, which concluded with the new year. On 1 January, Poland took over the presidency of the EU.
Billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg will certainly be present at the ceremony. Former US President Barack Obama has also confirmed his attendance at the event.
Politicians at Trump's ceremony
Several far-right politicians in Europe, including Briton Nigel Farage, Frenchman Éric Zemmour, Dutchman Geert Wilders, and Belgian Tom Van Grieken, will also be present at this event.
Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is also heading to Washington.
Viktor Orbán was one of the first politicians to visit the president-elect when it became clear that Trump would become the 47th President of the United States.
The Hungarian Prime Minister then went to Mar-a-Lago, Trump's residence in Florida.
