Olympic medallist Fred Kerley charged after Miami arrest
Fred Kerley, an American sprinter and Olympic medallist, was detained by police in Miami Beach after resisting arrest. Officers used a taser because the athlete did not comply with their orders. He was charged with assaulting officers, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace.
According to information provided by the WSVN station, Kerley approached the officers who were performing their duties, concerned about his car parked nearby. His behaviour became increasingly aggressive, prompting the officers to call for backup. Despite orders to leave, Kerley did not comply, leading to the use of the taser.
Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, Kerley assumed a fighting stance and ignored lawful commands, leading to his resistance during the arrest, the police stated in release.
Emergency backup was called, and a dart-firing stun gun was deployed to subdue Kerley, who was subsequently taken into custody without further incident, the officers added.

Fred Kerley is a decorated athlete. At the Paris Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the 100-metre race, and earlier, in Tokyo, he claimed silver in the same event. His achievements also include five World Championship medals, including three golds (100 m, 4x100 m, and 4x400 m), a silver in the 4x400 m relay, and a bronze in the 400 m race. His personal best in the 100 metres is 9.76 seconds, which is the sixth-best time in the history of the event. The world record belongs to Usain Bolt, who clocked 9.58 seconds in 2009.
