This is a treat we all remember from childhood, although it is enjoyed by all generations today. You can find pouches of powder in various flavours in the shop, from classics like cream and vanilla to raspberry, cherry, or salted caramel. However, none can compare to the one prepared at home.

Pudding is one of the simplest desserts. Our mums and grans made it, and it appeared on the menu for preschoolers and was included in many desserts, like plum cake. Although you can easily buy ready-made powder or even pre-made pudding in shops, once you prepare it from scratch at home according to an old recipe, you will never go back to shop-bought.

Recipe for homemade pudding

Life should be made easier, so using semi-prepared products in the kitchen is not a bad thing. Pudding, however, is so simple and quick that you don't need to rush to buy a pouch when you crave dessert.

All children enjoyed homemade pudding. When the fire under the stove was put out, and Mum poured the pudding into a bowl, everyone grabbed their spoons. If we also add homemade raspberry syrup, we have a dessert that steals hearts, not just because of sentiment.

Ingredients:

  • 500 ml of milk,
  • 2 egg yolks,
  • 2 tablespoons of potato starch,
  • 1 tablespoon of wheat flour,
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar,
  • seeds from half a vanilla pod.

Instead of a vanilla pod, you can use vanilla sugar. Add a tablespoon along with regular sugar to the egg yolk and flour.

Preparation:

  1. In a saucepan, heat half the milk on low heat.
  2. In a bowl, combine the egg yolks, both flours, the remaining milk, and sugar. Mix well to avoid lumps.
  3. Pour the mixture into the hot milk, stirring constantly.
  4. Add the vanilla seeds and heat the mixture until the pudding thickens.

Transfer the ready pudding to a bowl. Cover it with cling film if you want to wait until it cools. This way, a skin will not form. Serve with homemade raspberry syrup and enjoy the taste like in the old days.
