Recent analyses from an American think tank suggest that hundreds of North Korean soldiers have been moved by sea to Russia. Satellite images indicate that Russian warships carried soldiers to the military port in Dunai, located in the Far East, in October and November.

Mysterious operations in Dunai

According to South Korean intelligence, these movements were conducted from Chongjin, Hamhung, and Musudan North Korean ports. Satellite images from October display activities related to soldier transfers at the Russian base in Dunai.

The images identified Russian Ropucha and Alligator class ships, each capable of carrying up to 400 soldiers. As Dunai is an isolated military facility, it allows for secret operations, evading the notice of civilians and intelligence services, according to the think tank.

Reports from Ukrainian and Western intelligence at the start of the year estimate that around 12,000 North Korean soldiers have been dispatched to Russia, with approximately 4,000 either killed or injured.

Additionally, at least two instances of North Korean soldiers being captured by Ukrainians have been reported, as stated by Volodymyr Zelensky himself.

The think tank suggests that Russia and North Korea may no longer use maritime routes for these transfers. South Korean intelligence reports frequent flights of Russian military planes between Vladivostok and Pyongyang. CNN sought a comment from the Russian Ministry of Defence but received no response.
