North Korean soldiers caught in Ukraine: Tragic fate revealed
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, acknowledged that the Ukrainian military captured several severely wounded North Korean soldiers, who subsequently died from their injuries.
President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, disclosed that the Ukrainian armed forces captured a number of severely wounded North Korean soldiers. Regrettably, their injuries were so serious that they could not be saved.
Dramatic situation of soldiers
During an evening video address, Zelensky highlighted that North Korean troops fighting in Russia's Kursk region are incurring heavy losses. These soldiers are left unprotected by Russian forces. "Today there were reports about several soldiers from North Korea. Our soldiers managed to take them prisoner. Our soldiers managed to take them prisoner. But they were very seriously wounded and could not be resuscitated," said Zelensky.
Zelensky criticised the dictatorships that send their citizens to fight in Europe. "This is one of the manifestations of the madness dictatorships are capable of. The Korean nation should not lose its people in the battles in Europe," he added.
US reaction
The US National Security Council spokesperson, John Kirby, stated that North Korean soldiers are taking their own lives instead of surrendering, due to fears about the fate of their families. The US estimates the DPRK's losses exceed a thousand killed and wounded in the past week. "It is clear that Russian and North Korean military leaders are treating these troops as expendable and ordering them on hopeless assaults against Ukrainian defenses. These North Korean soldiers appear to be highly indoctrinated, pushing attacks even when it is clear that those attacks are futile," said Kirby.
Over 10,000 North Korean soldiers have reportedly been sent to Russia to support the Russian army. The Kremlin has not commented on this information, and North Korea has neither confirmed nor denied the presence of its troops on the frontline in Ukraine.
