Nord stream sabotage: German intelligence implicates Poland and Ukraine

In September 2022, three out of four Nord Stream gas pipeline strands were destroyed. The German prosecutor pointed to Volodymyr Z. as a suspect who had lived in Poland for a while. The former head of German intelligence, in an interview with "Die Welt", claimed that Andrzej Duda knew about the attack.

On 26 September 2022, three of the four strands of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines leading from Russia to Germany along the Baltic Sea were destroyed. Russia blamed the USA, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine for the attack. The Ukrainian government vehemently denied any involvement in this incident.

Germany, Denmark, and Sweden are leading the investigation into the explosions. Investigators from the latter country found traces of explosives, suggesting that actions in the Baltic waters were deliberate. Meanwhile, the German prosecutor named Volodymyr Z. as the main suspect, a Ukrainian citizen who had lived in Poland for some time. The Attorney General ordered the man's arrest.

The Nord Stream destruction. Former head of German intelligence speaks about Andrzej Duda

The former head of German intelligence, August Hanning, commented on the Nord Stream issue in an interview with the German newspaper "Die Welt". During the interview, he stated that the pipeline destruction resulted from an agreement between the presidents of Poland and Ukraine.

There were agreements between Volodymyr Zelensky and Andrzej Duda regarding the attack - Hanning believes.

What’s more, the former head of German intelligence claims that Germany should demand compensation from both countries.

Ukrainians destroyed Nord Stream? American investigation

It is worth adding that the results of their investigation into the explosion of Nord Stream 2 were published on Thursday by the American "The Wall Street Journal". According to the newspaper, Ukrainians were responsible for the pipeline's destruction. When the CIA learned of the matter, Volodymyr Zelensky supposedly wanted to call off the operation. However, the then-commander of the Ukrainian army, Valeriy Zaluzhny, allegedly disregarded the president. The perpetrators reportedly rented a yacht in the German port of Rostock and then destroyed Nord Stream with the help of explosives placed at depth. Ukrainian authorities firmly denied these claims and pointed to Russia as the incident's perpetrator.

Let us recall that the Nord Stream gas pipeline was criticised by countries in Central and Eastern Europe between Germany and Russia. As rightly noted, it was a blow to their interests. After Russia invaded Ukraine, gas supplies through Nord Stream 1 were suspended, and Nord Stream 2 was never launched.
