The disappearance of Madeleine McCann and the accompanying circumstances constitute a story that creators of the most spectacular thrillers would not be ashamed of. It is hard to believe that a little girl left for an extended moment in a closed hotel room disappeared without a trace, and 17 years after the dramatic events, it has still not been possible to establish the identity of the kidnapper officially.
All signs on heaven and earth indicate that a German man, Christian Brückner, is involved in the case. The man is currently behind bars after being convicted of five sexual offences committed between 2000 and 2017 against women and girls aged 10 to 80. The extension of his sentence may be decided by newly discovered evidence.
Will the suspect in the abduction of Madeleine McCann stay in prison longer?
The magazine "New York Post" reports that German police officers have accessed an email account through which pornographic materials involving children were sent. No details have been disclosed yet, but officials indicate a connection between the correspondence and the incarcerated paedophile.
If Brückner's guilt could be proven, this would be the first evidence linking him to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. The detective working on the case, Titus Stampa, testified that he cannot say anything more at this stage.
An external hard drive may be connected to the case of abduction. I am not allowed to talk about it - he said before the district court in Brunswick.
For several years, the 47-year-old paedophile has been considered the main suspect in this case, but so far no charges have been brought against him. Christian Brückner is currently serving a sentence for assault and rape of a 72-year-old American tourist who was vacationing in Portugal. If his guilt in the case of the kidnapped doctors' daughter cannot be proven, he will be released in 2026.
