If it's a local fossil, meaning this mammoth died there tens of thousands of years ago and its body sank in the swamp, and now you've discovered its remains, then DON'T take it out yourself! The days of fossil hunters are over—currently, the context of the find (the environment in which the animal lived, the circumstances of its death) is as important as the find itself. For instance, if there are difficulties in dating the bones, the plant matter with the bones can be dated. If it's a local fossil, having it uncovered by a professional team with equipment, taking other samples, etc., will increase the scientific value of the discovery, he wrote.
