A 23-year-old Scot vanished without a trace during a cruise ship journey on the North Sea, complaining of seasickness just before his disappearance. The mystery remains unsolved.
Liam J., a 23-year-old social work student from Scotland, embarked on a cruise last week with his mother aboard the luxury cruise ship "MSC Euribia," which is approximately 331 metres long, setting sail to Southampton in the United Kingdom.
Their plan was to explore European cities and celebrate his mother's birthday. However, on the second day, Liam suddenly went missing.
The MSC Cruises line, when contacted by the "Daily Record," mentioned that they reported the disappearance to the authorities. On March 22, police from Southampton boarded the ship and conducted an investigation on behalf of the coroner.
Sophia, Liam's 20-year-old wife, expressed her deep distress, stating she has received scant information from the authorities since her husband's disappearance.
"I feel so lost," she despairingly told the "Daily Record." "He just… disappeared. I'll never see him again. I'm devastated," she added.
MSC Cruises suggested that Liam's disappearance was not due to a criminal act. Unofficial reports indicate he was seen on surveillance footage falling overboard into the North Sea.
Tragedy off the coast of Ramsgate
A similar tragic incident occurred last October on the German cruise ship AIDAperla en route from Hamburg to the Spanish Canary Islands. The BBC reported that off the coast of Ramsgate, a crew member fell overboard. The ship was promptly stopped and returned to the suspected location of the incident, with the coastguard being alerted immediately.
Despite the search lasting 9 hours, it ultimately was unsuccessful.
