Musicians Billie Eilish and Finneas have called on fans to register as voters for the upcoming presidential elections in the United States. The talented sibling duo has endorsed whom?

On 17th September, the musical siblings Billie Eilish and Finneas reached out to fans through social media. On Instagram and the X platform, they published a short video explaining why they will be voting for Kamala Harris in the November presidential elections. They also urged young people to register to vote.

Billie Eilish and Finneas endorsed Kamala Harris

In the video, Billie Eilish stated: "We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet and our democracy." Finneas added: "We can’t let extremists control our lives and our freedoms and our future." By releasing the statement on National Voter Registration Day, the siblings urged the audience to confirm their right to vote and to vote early.

Kamala Harris' campaign team swiftly responded to Eilish and Finneas' declaration, sharing the musicians' video on the Kamala HQ profile on X with the comment: "Birds of a feather." This is the title of one of Billie Eilish's hits from her latest album, "Hit Me Hard And Soft." It references the proverb, "Birds of a feather flock together."

Voter registration in the United States

Previously, Taylor Swift, who also endorsed Harris, called for voter registration. Why is this so important? In U.S. elections, voter lists do not form automatically based on residence address. Every voter must register their intent to vote in a specific state and prove that they are eligible to do so.

Billie Eilish and Finneas also encouraged fans to vote early. Early voting is possible in most states, partly because U.S. presidential elections traditionally occur on Thursday, which is not a public holiday. This year, citizens of the United States will choose their president on November 5th.
