Murder in Mauritius: Russian woman's tragic end at hands of lover
For her, it was a holiday adventure; for him, it was love. Recordings revealing the final moments of a 29-year-old Russian woman’s life have surfaced online. She was tragically stabbed to death by an insanely jealous lover during her idyllic vacation in Mauritius.
Zaliya Shamigulova was last seen alive a week ago on the tropical island of Mauritius, where Puryavirsingh Sundur allegedly murdered her. The man allegedly stabbed her to death and then cut out the 29-year-old’s tongue. Supposedly, he did this to prevent her from calling for help.
The Russian woman was found dead with several stab wounds to her chest. An autopsy revealed that her tongue had been cut off and a piece of her throat removed.
Zaliya was an academic teacher working in Chelyabinsk. She had been on the island since 17th August and went missing after leaving her rented apartment near the picturesque Flic-en-Flac beach.

Recordings have surfaced online showing Zaliya getting into a blue car. She was later meant to meet Puryavirsingh Sundur, whom she met on Tinder. The 29-year-old IT engineer from Mauritius became the main suspect in the Russian woman's murder case.
The man allegedly confessed to Zaliya's murder and provided a statement describing how he killed her.
The 29-year-old Russian woman’s body was found naked, mutilated, and buried in a shallow grave. According to media reports, detectives are still searching for her clothing. Investigators suspect the killer intended to dismember her body but ultimately buried her in a makeshift grave.
The suspect allegedly led the police to the grave in La Marie, a residential area. The police report noted: "He said he was deeply in love with 29-year-old Zaliya Shamigulova and claimed he planned to marry her".
During interrogation, the 29-year-old confessed to discovering his newly met girlfriend’s infidelity.
On Saturday, the man took the Russian woman on a tour of the island, but in a fit of jealousy, he pulled out a knife and brutally killed her, then stripped her and buried her body - according to the police report.
A funeral ceremony for Zaliya was organised in Mauritius. Her body is now set to be transported to Russia.
