Morocco surpasses Egypt as Africa's top tourist hotspot

Egypt dethroned. Despite its beautiful coral reefs, the blue of the Red Sea, the pyramids in Giza, and ancient temple complexes scattered throughout the country, Egypt is no longer the most visited country in Africa by tourists.

Morocco has overtaken Egypt. According to the country's Ministry of Tourism, approximately 15.9 million tourists visited Rabat, its capital, by the end of November this year. This is a 20% increase over the same period last year.

Egypt plans to welcome around 15.3 million foreign visitors by the end of this year.

Morocco is mainly visited by tourists from France, Spain, and the United Kingdom, and the number of these visitors increased by 47% this year. The country's main attraction is Marrakesh, often called the "red city."

Other popular travel destinations include Agadir, Tangier, and Casablanca, located on the Atlantic Ocean coast. Importantly, Marrakesh itself has 34 regular flight connections with airports in France.
