The appeal to Russia was made by the so-called Congress of Deputies of All Levels, which convened on Wednesday in Tiraspol. The Congress requested Russia to "take steps to protect Transnistria amidst escalating pressure from Moldova". According to the separatists, Chisinau is economically isolating them.

In response, Russia stated that its relevant departments "will review this request".

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that the Moldovan government "is emulating Kyiv". He was alluding to the Kremlin’s unfounded claims about the suppression of Russian-speaking individuals.

Transnistria crisis. Chisinau's firm reply to Moscow

On Saturday, the government in Chisinau issued an official retort to the messages coming from the Kremlin.

"Minister Lavrov and the Kremlin regime have no ethical standing to preach about democracy and freedom. A nation that incarcerates and assassinates opposition figures, unjustifiably invades its neighbours, offers the world nothing but sorrow and strife" - was stated in the response from the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
