Milan allows pets to be buried with owners, omitting names
The city council of Milan has made a surprising decision, allowing residents to be buried with their pets. However, there is a small caveat.
As reported by the Italian newspaper "Il Sole-24 Ore," the Milan city council has decided that residents of this tourist city will be able to bury their pets in municipal cemeteries.
Residents of Milan can rest together with their animals
According to the new council regulation, the burial of an animal's ashes or remains can take place after the funeral of its owner or even simultaneously, during one ceremony.
The new regulations apply not only to dogs and cats but also to other animals such as hamsters, rabbits, birds, fish, turtles, or ferrets. However, it is essential that the individual express a wish before their death to rest with their pet.
One condition
There is, however, a small restriction when it comes to the joint burial of an owner with their pet. The names, references, or likenesses of the animals cannot be included on the tombstones. The only exception is the inclusion of a photo of the deceased owner with their pet.
"This is a civilised act that many people have been waiting for," stated Milan councillor Gaia Romani, as quoted by the Ansa agency. The city council's decision aims to meet the needs of residents who wish to commemorate their animals. The initiative has been positively received among citizens who consider animals as family members.
