Microsoft enhances Windows 11 start menu with smart updates
Microsoft is working on improving the Start menu. Although the improvements might not be visible at first glance, changes are on the horizon that will significantly enhance the recommendation system. This controversial solution has been a subject of discussion since the early days of Windows 11 on the market.
Windows 11, which recently received the update KB5048753 via the Insider channel, now offers better suggestions for websites and applications within the recommendations in the Start menu, notes the Windows Latest service. This update aims to address the primary drawback of the system, which has been the debatable effectiveness and logic of selecting recommended applications for use. The goal is for the suggestions to be sufficiently relevant so that users can discover new programs or effectively find websites that may be useful to them.
The changes will also affect the Bing search engine, which displays both local and internet results in one place. Following the changes, these functions will be separated. Windows Latest indicates that this change will be noticeable (at least initially) only within the European Union due to competition regulations. In the US, where no such regulations apply, the search engine will operate "as usual".
In the context of Windows 11, it is also important to be aware that the TPM 2.0 module remains crucial for system security despite changes in this area having been considered briefly in the system. Contrary to previous misleading information suggesting that installing Windows 11 without this component might be possible, its absence may lead to a lack of support and updates.
Windows 10 users should consider upgrading, as the system will lose support in October 2025. Microsoft recommends moving to Windows 11 or purchasing new hardware. Extended support is available but is more viable for businesses than for home users.
