As is widely recognized, Michael J. Fox's promising career was abruptly halted due to a devastating diagnosis. The actor has been inactive in his professional career for over two decades. Nonetheless, he has devoted himself to authoring books and supporting the battle against Parkinson's disease. His dedicated wife, Tracy Pollan, has stood by him throughout these endeavours for over 35 years.
He first appeared on screen at the age of 15, playing Leo's nephew in the sitcom Leo and Me. He gained recognition for his role in the NBC sitcom Family Ties (1982–1989), for which he was nominated four times for the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. However, the world remembers him most as Marty McFly from the cult trilogy Back to the Future by Robert Zemeckis.
His engagement in the hit series made him one of the highest-paid actors in the world. It's hard to say how his career would have unfolded without the diagnosis he received in 1991. Parkinson's Disease led Fox first to leave the series "Spin City," where he played the lead role, and then from acting altogether. In this difficult period for him, but also to this day, he can count on the support of his wife. Check out the gallery, learn about the relationship of Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan, and see what the couple with a 35-year marriage looks like today.
They met on set
The mentioned series "Family Ties," which brought popularity to Fox, was important to him for another, more personal reason. It was on the set of this production that the actor met the beautiful Tracy Pollan, an actress one year his senior. She played Ellen Reed, the partner of the intelligent and ambitious Republican portrayed on the small screen by Fox. Their affection quickly moved beyond the screen.
The pair got married in 1988 and have been inseparable since then. Tracy rarely speaks about their relationship, but when they were celebrating their 30th anniversary together, she revealed the secret to such a successful, long-term relationship. "Just give each other the benefit of the doubt. He assumes I'm doing the best I can," she confessed.
All crises are forgotten
Although Michael J. Fox found out about his disease in 1991, at the peak of his career, the news only went around the world seven years later. This gave the couple time to come to terms with the information away from the curious media. Tracy, while constantly by her husband’s side, admitted in a conversation with Oprah Winfrey that she felt like leaving her partner.
She explained that her motivations were not about Michael's disease but rather about his lack of faith and behavior resulting from fear, asserting that this wasn’t what she had signed up for. Nowadays, all crises are forgotten, mainly because Fox has come to terms with reality, which Pollan noted makes it easier for everyone.
They are still madly in love
The latest pictures of celebrities show that despite being in a relationship for over 35 years, their affection has not faded. The couple was last seen at the New York premiere of the second season of "The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst" by Andrew Jarecki. Pollan and Fox were hugging and smiling, happily posing for photographers.
