A tragic accident during the rally of Mexican presidential candidate Jorge Alvarez Máynez in San Pedro Garza García. Due to strong winds, part of the stage on which the candidate and his campaign team were standing collapsed. Five people died, and at least 50 were injured, reports "The Guardian".

Shocking scenes unfolded during the meeting of Mexican presidential candidate Jorge Alvarez Máynez with voters in the town of San Pedro Garza García in the northern state of Nuevo Leon. A strong gust of wind brought down part of the stage structure on which the politician, members of his campaign team, and local politicians were standing.

Local authorities report that five people died and at least 50 were injured.

Máynez reported that after the accident, he was briefly hospitalized for observation. The director of the Mexican Social Security Institute informed that dozens of people who were injured during the incident are being treated in local medical facilities.

"I'm fine and in contact with state authorities to find out what happened. The only important thing right now is to care for the victims of the accident,” said Máynez. The politician added that he has suspended his campaign.

The presidential elections in Mexico are scheduled for Sunday, June 2. According to polls, Máynez is in third place, behind former Mexican Prime Minister Claudia Sheinbaum and Xochitl Galvez, a former mayor of the Miguel Hidalgo municipality.
