Mel Gibson reflects on loss and resilience after house fire
Actor Mel Gibson is one of many people who lost their homes in the great fire that engulfed Los Angeles. Drone photos show that Gibson has absolutely nothing to return to.
"I mean my place looked like Dresden." Mel Gibson shared that losing his possessions in the fire unexpectedly brought a sense of freedom, as he no longer felt burdened by material things, though only his chickens survived. During an interview with Joe Rogan, he recalled the unease he felt knowing the fire was affecting his area and wondering if his home would still be standing. Upon returning to find it destroyed, he consoled himself with the thought that at least he no longer had to deal with ongoing plumbing problems.
The fire consumed Mel Gibson's home
Gibson lived on the Malibu estate with his family for 15 years. They managed to evacuate in time. The actor took his chickens from the house with his wife Rosalind Ross and son Lars. "Well, I lost all kinds of stuff — everything from photographs to files to just personal things that I had from over the years, and clothing. Pretty cool stuff, but you know, that can all be replaced. These are only things. The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way, that’s all I can care about, really." – summarised Mel Gibson.
In the photo, you can see the condition of the area where Gibson's house once stood. Only the stone parts of the building remain - in the photo, you can see a grill and remnants of a fireplace.
The cars left in front of the house also burned. According to reports in the American press, the property cost the "Passion of the Christ" director over £11 million.
As a result of the fires in Los Angeles, homes were lost by Adam Brody, Anthony Hopkins, Anna Faris, Miles Teller, and Jeff Bridges, among others. Most of them admitted that it's just stuff that can be bought again, but they are mostly grateful that no harm came to their loved ones. Let us add that at least 16 people lost their lives in the fires - among them was child actor Rory Sykes, whose mother couldn't manage to rescue him from the fire-threatened house.
