Ever since Meghan Markle joined the Windsor family, things have seemed turbulent. Reports of strained relationships within the royal family were once dismissed as gossip. Still, following the Sussexes’ bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and the release of the red-haired prince's revealing autobiography, there’s little doubt about a significant conflict within the family.
Stories of the American's, to say the least, unapproachable nature have been making rounds almost since she started her career in the media. The former Duchess is accused of bullying employees, who allegedly were afraid to confront her and later described her as demanding and harsh. Some of Meghan’s alleged victims claim she humiliated them and often reduced them to tears. Reportedly unable to cope with the ongoing pressure and Meghan's temper, numerous staff members resigned from their positions at Kensington Palace, accusing Harry's wife of bullying and "emotional cruelty".
Although royal representatives assured in 2021 that the matter was being investigated seriously, the case remains unresolved, and Meghan has yet to be held accountable. It seems one of the affected parties decided enough was enough and took the matter into their own hands, as an interview from the Australian magazine "Herald Sun" suggested.
Samantha Cohen, one of the ten employees interviewed during the bullying investigation, confirmed her involvement in the newspaper. The trusted advisor to Queen Elizabeth, who served her for twenty years, reportedly gave Meghan regular tutorials on everything from royal etiquette to diplomatic protocol at the Queen's request.
In her conversation with "Herald Sun", the Australian explained that although her assistance to the Sussexes was temporary, she couldn’t leave because the Palace struggled to find her replacement. She described the American's aggressive behaviour towards staff as an open secret within royal circles.
"I was only supposed to stay for six months but stayed for 18," she revealed. "we couldn't find a replacement for me and when we did we took them on tour to Africa with Harry and Meghan to show them the ropes but they left as well while in Africa."
Cohen resigned in October 2019 to join Cool Earth, a charity focused on reducing carbon emissions. Royal correspondent Valentine Low later claimed on the podcast "Palace Confidential" that Meghan screamed at Cohen and supposedly said dealing with them was like dealing with a couple of teenagers.
As expected, Markle has strongly denied all allegations of harassing employees. Her lawyers stated that the suggestion that Meghan dismissed Samantha Cohen or left the job because Meghan was 'difficult' (a term used six times in this article) is false and malicious.
