The mattress plays an essential role in our nightly recovery, and it's not just the construction that ensures comfort. The key is maintaining the proper mattress hygiene, which affects health and sleep quality. Poor care can lead to the build-up of bacteria and dust mites.

Dust mites are among the most common allergens, potentially causing allergic reactions. After a year of using a mattress, up to 15,000 of these microscopic creatures may reside in our bed. Regular mattress maintenance can help reduce allergy risks and prolong its lifespan.

How to care for a mattress?

Keep the mattress clean by regularly airing and vacuuming it. The mattress should be vacuumed every week or two to remove any dirt and dust.

Additionally, investing in a mattress protector is an excellent way to guard it against dirt and spills. The protector can be easily removed and cleaned, which greatly aids in maintaining hygiene. Implementing such measures extends the lifespan and functionality of the mattress.

Homemade method for disinfecting a mattress

Wet cleaning a mattress is less frequent but highly effective. This method allows for the removal of deeper dirt and stains. Using a steam cleaner for mattresses is a proven way to effectively remove bacteria and dust mites through high temperature.

You can also try a homemade method for disinfection. Add two teaspoons of white vinegar and five drops of essential oil (such as thyme, clove, or eucalyptus) to a spray bottle and spray it on the mattress. Additionally, for spot cleaning of the mattress, you can use baking soda or a mixture of water and citric acid.
