In a Brazilian zoo in Curitiba, in the state of Paraná, an incident could have ended tragically. A man jumped into a pond with hippos. Luckily, the animals did not show aggression.

Tourists shared recordings of the incident, which show the hippos curiously observing the man swimming next to them.

Wanted to "play" with the monkeys

In the videos, you can see how a man dressed in a football jersey with the number 10 swims in the pond and then shouts something towards the hippos. After a while, he runs towards other animals.

According to Brazilian Radio Band, before jumping the fence, the man told tourists that he intended to "play" with the monkeys.

In the video shared online, you can see the man running to one of the monkeys and trying to make contact with it. The animal started jumping and approaching the "intruder".

"There was an interaction between the man and the animals, but he didn't touch any of them," summarised Radio Band.

The zoo guards managed to get the man out of the animal area "safe and sound." He was then escorted by the police to one of the local hospitals for psychiatric evaluation.
