Over 40 years ago, the actress was diagnosed with Graves' disease. Both radiotherapy and surgery were successful at that time. In 2007, Smith was diagnosed with breast cancer, which was surgically removed. After the surgery and chemotherapy, Maggie recovered.

Smith was considered one of the most legendary British actresses. In her several-decade-long career, Maggie received countless engagements. Still, fans will remember her primarily for her iconic roles in productions such as the Harry Potter film series and the television show "Downton Abbey."

She won two Oscars, three Golden Globes, five BAFTA awards, and many other accolades. Smith remained active to the end—last year, she was one of the models in the latest Loewe campaign.
