Mads Mikkelsen pushes for 'Hannibal' revival despite past viewership struggles

"Hannibal's" first season aired on NBC in 2013, showcasing the unusual relationship between FBI consultant Will Graham, who possesses extraordinary analytical skills, and Dr Hannibal Lecter, who eventually becomes his advisor on investigations. Graham is oblivious to the fact that Lecter is a serial killer.

Mikkelsen's portrayal of Lecter's character was met with success. "Hannibal" produced two more seasons following its debut. Despite receiving much praise for its dreamlike and graphic narrative elements, viewership dropped with every passing episode. As a result, it was decided in 2015 not to extend the series. That being said, Mikkelsen and "Hannibal's" creator, Bryan Fuller, have repeatedly expressed their desire to create more seasons ever since.

Mikkelsen's latest interview serves as evidence: "It's no secret that everyone from the cast, including Bryan, wants to return. It needs to happen sooner rather than later. We're not getting any younger, but the storyline can leap forward, introducing a gap, which would be acceptable. Therefore, it's all about finding a new home for it, but nothing has yet. Why? I have no idea. We love this show, and it appears well-received by many others," the actor stated.

The upcoming roles of Mads Mikkelsen

Recently, the Danish star collaborated with Fuller, likely to please their fans. Mikkelsen is set to star in a horror film titled "Dust Bunny", a new brainchild of "Hannibal's" creator. Mikkelsen's character is a man whom an eight-year-old girl asks to help her eliminate a monster lurking under her bed. Sigourney Weaver is also slated to feature in the movie.
