The Stellantis group has officially announced that they are considering closing the factory in Luton, UK. The plant, established by Vauxhall in 1905, currently produces various electric commercial models, including the Citroën ë-Dispatch, Peugeot E-Expert, Fiat Professional E-Scudo, Opel Vivaro Electric, and Vauxhall Vivaro Electric. The company intends to consolidate their production at another location.
This initiative concerns Ellesmere Port. Stellantis aims to transform the plant there into "an all-electric, sustainable vehicle hub". Smaller commercial vehicles of the group are presently manufactured there: the Citroën e-Berlingo, Peugeot E-Partner, Fiat Professional E-Doblo, Opel Combo Electric, and Vauxhall Combo Electric. The plan is for the larger counterparts mentioned earlier to join them.
According to Stellantis authorities, this move is expected to help reduce costs and increase operational efficiency, although it should be noted that no final decisions have been made yet. Discussions are currently underway with employees, and some of them will receive attractive offers to transfer to Ellesmere Port.
