Incumbent President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, won the second round of the presidential election on Sunday. After counting votes from more than half of the electoral commissions, it was found that Nausėda received 83.75 per cent of the votes, and his rival, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, received 14.83 per cent.

Nausėda was the clear favourite from the beginning of the election. Voter turnout during Sunday's voting was 53.43 per cent.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė acknowledged her defeat and congratulated Gitanas Nausėda on his victory. "I would like to congratulate the President-elect of Lithuania," Šimonytė told journalists in the evening.

President of Lithuania does not belong to any party

Sixty-year-old Gitanas Nausėda, who won the second round of the presidential election in Lithuania on Sunday, is an economist and holds a doctorate in social sciences. He is a pro-European politician who actively advocates for increased security in the region and support for Ukraine in its defensive war against Russia.

The President of Lithuania speaks German, English, and Russian; his hobbies include chess, tennis, and music. He has been married to Diana Nausėdienė for 32 years, with whom he has two daughters, Ugnė and Gedailė.

Nausėda does not belong to any political party. He ran in the election as an independent candidate. He received support from the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, but as observers point out, his views are often very conservative.

While seeking re-election, Nausėda did not hide that he was counting on victory. He emphasized that his win would, among other things, allow him to continue the work he has done over the past five years.
