Lindsey Vonn found herself embroiled in controversy after sharing a holiday photo on Instagram. In the picture, she is holding a starfish, which sparked outrage among netizens who accused her of insensitivity towards marine animals.

Vonn explained that starfish can remain out of the water for an extended time, but experts point out that even a brief period out of the water can be fatal for them.

Lindsey Vonn criticised after posting photo with starfish

Vonn's photo with the starfish became a focal point in a heated discussion about marine animal protection. Critics accused her of ignorance and cruelty, while marine protection organisations reminded her that starfish cannot breathe out of water. Vonn attempted to defuse the situation by stating that she saw the starfish the following day on the beach, where it was moving around.

The starfish is completely fine, folks. Well I saw him a day later far down the beach, moving right along. He was doing great! - she wrote.

Who is Lindsey Vonn?

Lindsey Vonn is a three-time Olympic medallist, including a gold medallist from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. She is regarded as one of the greatest alpine skiers in history. Her dynamic skiing style often resulted in injuries, forcing her to take breaks from her career multiple times. Recently, the media have been covering her split with hockey player P.K. Subban.

The skier hasn't always felt confident about her appearance, which led to struggles with self-esteem. For many years, she felt she deviated from the standard athlete figure, even though she is considered one of the most attractive competitors. However, illnesses and injuries could not dampen her spirit, making her an inspirational figure for many.
