Playing with Lego bricks is a hobby of a large number of people. But some take their passion, usually nurtured in the serene sanctuary of their homes, to the next level. A perfect example is David Gustafsson - a Lego enthusiast from Sweden who won the local edition of the Lego Masters programme in 2020.

Gustafsson and his team from Brickscale undertook this special Volvo-affiliated project. Previously, the Swedes had been more known for slightly smaller creations than the one they were awarded the task of building. They rose to the challenge of recreating the Volvo V70 – the same model Gustafsson owns.

Completing the work took over a year - and this is no surprise. Aside from the car frame and tyres, everything has been constructed from Lego bricks. The level of detail, from the seats and dashboard to the bodywork, mirrors, knobs and steering wheel, is quite extraordinary. So much so that the headlights follow suit when the steering wheel is turned!

I am speaking of driving. The most unique aspect of this project is that this Lego version of the Volvo V70 can move. And no, it's not just rolling when pushed but has fully functional brakes and an electric motor. Thanks to these features, the vehicle, built from over 400,000 Lego bricks, can physically move.

Of course, such a construction will not be seen on public roads, but that doesn't mean we won't get to see it in person. The Lego Volvo starts its tour of Sweden on 22 February and will last until 4 August. So far, enthusiasts have had the chance to glimpse this model in Volvo's home city, Gothenburg, but this is just the start of its journey.
