Bedbugs are immensely disliked insects, not just due to their bites, but also their speedy spread from one location to another. This makes them difficult to deal with, making it beneficial to learn techniques on how to shield ourselves from their attacks. How to fend off bedbug invasion?
Cassie The Bug Doc, as the expert identifies herself on social media, began with a major factor - keeping suitcases on wooden floors rather than carpets.
"This hotel room doesn't have any carpets, but if there were, place your luggage on the wooden floor or tiles. This reduces the chances of picking up any bedbugs before inspecting the room," the TikTok video illustrates.
Moreover, Dr Krejci suggested placing the luggage on an elevated platform like chairs as an extra measure to ensure bedbugs are unable to access them.
these areas must be scrutinised
Dr Krejci asserts that the bed is the most critical zone to meticulously inspect in a hotel room. The entomologist advised swift removal of pillowcases from the bedding, followed by a careful scrutiny for any brown spots.
"Brown spots, which we call faecal marks, are typically left behind by bedbugs. On consuming blood and digesting it, they leave behind brown faecal marks that bear resemblance to blood," she explicated.
"Until you notice any brown spots, things are fine," she supplemented.
She also suggested a thorough check of the pull-out drawer underneath the bed and cushions on the chairs.
