Lamborghini's next roar: "Temerario" hybrid era begins
Lamborghini has no intention of leaving a gap in its lineup after the Huracán. Its successor will be unveiled in 2024, and more details about its characteristics will emerge.
The Lamborghini Huracán held its own in the market for 10 years and sold extremely well throughout that period. However, by 2024, its story will end with the debut of a limited edition of just 10 units called the STJ.
At this point, fans of the Italian brand have started the waiting period for the debut of the successor and for new information about the upcoming model. Lately, we definitely cannot complain about a lack of news, and there are fewer secrets about the car, which is set to be presented to the world in August 2024.
Of course, the most significant change will be a new engine. With the Huracán, the naturally aspirated V10, known from the discontinued Audi R8, is officially retiring. It was certain that the new Lamborghini would feature a hybrid engine. Still, journalists from "Autocar" learned more through a conversation with Federico Foschini, the sales and marketing manager of the company from Sant'Agata Bolognese.
He confirmed that a plug-in hybrid system based on a V8 will be under the hood. This system is said to be very closely related to or identical to the design used in the Lamborghini Urus SE. According to Foschini, using a hybrid V8 is "objectively better" than using only a combustion engine.
Lamborghini registers trademarks. The new model is named again after a bull
A significant hint comes from new entries in the European Union Intellectual Property Office regarding the name. The Chilean newspaper "La Tercera" found in the EUIPO database two registrations made by Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. in early April 2024. They reserved the name "Temerario" and the potential model's logo.
The manufacturer has a tradition of naming its cars after Spanish bulls, and it seems this time will be no different. "La Tercera" reports that in 2023, a bull by this name was pardoned by a bullfighter during an event in the city of San Marcos in Mexico. Everything aligns, and Temerario, what can be translated as "reckless" or "careless," will likely become the patron of the new Lamborghini.
