Weeds can often present quite a challenge. We can meticulously pull them out, yet they regain their ground swiftly. On occasion, regular weeding fails to keep them at bay. So, how can we dispose of them effectively and organically? We have trialled several methods.

Homemade methods to control weeds

Sprays are not the most economical approach to tackle weeds. Frequently, they may harm plants we want to keep in our garden, as well as potentially affect the soil. So how do we eradicate everything we no longer want in our landscape?

Vinegar may emerge as a real panacea, which is likely already available in most kitchens. If not, it can be purchased for under £1. The process is as simple as pouring it into a spray bottle and applying it directly to the weeds. The ideal time to do this is on a warm, sunny day, which tends to boost its efficacy. Be wary of breezy conditions, for the wind may blow the vinegar onto plants you do not wish to harm.

Baking soda can combat weeds effectively

For many, managing your own garden is an immensely soothing experience. Certain enthusiasts even enjoy the act of weeding itself. This enjoyment, however, ceases once weeds begin reproducing at an unnerving speed. However, this can be managed.

Baking soda, a household staple, is invaluable in such a situation. It should be applied only after the undesired greenery has been uprooted from the garden. Distribute the powder over the area previously infested by weeds. This easy and budget-friendly method helps slow down the recurrence of weeds.

Interestingly, this trick can be especially helpful in places that are hard to tackle. Some prefer using baking soda when trying to remove persistent weeds that sprout between paving stones.
