Kitchen hacks: Banish cigarette smell with baking soda
The distinctive smell of cigarettes in the house can be extremely bothersome, seeping into every fabric and surface. Fortunately, there are tried and tested homemade methods that can effectively neutralise it. All you need are items found in your kitchen.
There's probably nothing as annoying as the smell of tobacco lingering in the room long after the last cigarette has been smoked. Walls, textiles, and all surfaces quickly "absorb" the smell, which means ordinary air fresheners often prove insufficient. We have a cheap and proven way to deal with it.
How to get rid of cigarette smell?
Smoking in the house is still common. The unpleasant smell can linger for weeks or even months. This is why landlords often do not allow smoking in their flats.
Ideally, smokers would quit completely – after all, it hurts their health. Unfortunately, it's not that easy, which is why many people still fall into the trap of addiction. So what can be done when the cigarette smell has already settled in our home? Homemade odour neutralisers come to the rescue, quickly dealing with the problem.
In this case, baking soda works best. Just take a whole package, which usually weighs about 85 grams, pour it into a bowl, and place it in the room where cigarettes were smoked. After about 2 hours, there should be no trace of the unpleasant smell.
Cigarette smell "ingrains" into textiles
Sometimes, placing baking soda in a bowl might not be enough. This is because the unpleasant cigarette smell may have already deeply penetrated into textiles, such as curtains or sofa upholstery. In this case, the earlier-mentioned powder should be used slightly differently.
Baking soda should be gently rubbed into the fabric. After a few hours, its excess can be removed with a vacuum cleaner, and that's it. This should neutralise the irritating smell.
