  • In the US states of Washington and Oregon, two election ballot boxes were set on fire, with hundreds of ballots destroyed. Investigators are searching for a suspect responsible for the arson, reported CNN.
  • "They didn’t lay down their lives to see us submit to the will of another petty tyrant," said the Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Tuesday during her largest and most climactic campaign rally in Washington. Harris spoke at the location where Trump encouraged a crowd of supporters to march on the Capitol on 6 January 2021.
  • Reuters reported on Tuesday that the Chinese spacecraft Shenzhou-19 (Divine Vessel), with a crew of three, launched from the Jiuquan spaceport at the edge of the Gobi Desert in northwestern China.

  • The UN Security Council met in New York on Tuesday for an open session dedicated to the escalation of the Middle East conflict and the blockade of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. Speeches by representatives from at least 56 countries were planned.
  • Severe floods caused by storm Dana swept through southern and eastern Spain, with local authorities in Valencia reporting the first fatalities.
