As reported by CNN, Mohammad Abu Al Qumsan became a father on 10 August. His wife gave birth to twins. On Tuesday, the resident of Deir al-Balah, in the central part of the Gaza Strip, went to Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital to collect the birth certificates of his children.
While the man was away from home, he received a call that his home had been destroyed in an Israeli attack. As a result of the rocket strike, his 28-year-old wife and their two newborn children were killed.
A video was posted on social media showing a distraught Mohammad Abu Al Qumsan being comforted by dozens of people gathered at Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
Just a few days earlier, the man's wife posted on Facebook celebrating the birth of their twins, describing them as a "miracle". The couple married last summer, before the war between Israel and Hamas erupted.
The Gaza Strip is under constant bombardment
The ruling Hamas in the Gaza Strip attacked southern Israel on 7 October 2023, killing 1,200 people, kidnapping 251, and bombarding the country with thousands of rockets. In response, Israel launched air raids followed by a ground operation in the Gaza Strip aimed at destroying Hamas.
Nearly 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war so far, according to local authorities, who do not distinguish between civilian casualties and killed militants in this tally. In the ground fighting, 332 Israeli soldiers have died.
The Gaza Strip is almost entirely destroyed, experiencing a large-scale humanitarian crisis. Most of the population has become internal refugees, having to flee from place to place multiple times.
