Israel unleashes intense strikes on Syrian military sites
Israel has once again attacked military targets in Syria. Sounds of explosions were heard in the provinces of Latakia and Tartus, among others, where the Russians have military bases. One of the explosions near Tartus was so powerful that it registered as a magnitude three earthquake on seismic sensors in the area.
Over the past week, the Israeli army conducted about 500 attacks on targets in Syria, destroying "most of the strategic weapon depots" there. The armed forces confirmed that they have destroyed many long-range missiles, Scud missiles, cruise missiles, fighter jets, helicopters, tanks, and about 90 per cent of the surface-to-air missiles in the Syrian army's arsenal.
Following Assad's escape, Israeli troops also entered the demilitarised zone in Syria, established after the Arab-Israeli war in 1973, including the Syrian side of Mount Hermon near Damascus, where they took over an abandoned military post.
Massive explosion in Tartus
On Sunday, according to Russian and Lebanese media, as well as the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Israel again attacked Syrian military bases in the provinces of Hama, Homs, Latakia, and Tartus. Let us remember that in the last two provinces, Russians have their military bases in Humaymim and Tartus.
The largest explosions were recorded near the city of Tartus in the province of the same name. Israeli missiles hit an ammunition depot there. The force of the explosion was so large that it was registered on seismic sensors in the area as a magnitude 3 earthquake.
"Israeli fighter jets conducted attacks" on a number of sites, including air defence units and "surface-to-surface missile depots," reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It claims these were "the heaviest attacks on Tartus since the beginning of the attacks in 2012."
