The Israeli Ministry of Defense conveyed the information about the "elimination" of a key Hamas commander.
It was meant to be a "precise" and planned attack.
The "Tehran Times" published on its profile the moment of the attack on the location where Mohammed Deif was present on 13 July. Israeli fighter jets attacked the area of Khan Yunis at that time.
Who was Deif?
Mohammed Deif (Deif, meaning "Guest") had led the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, since 2002. Israel holds him responsible for numerous suicide attacks and the killing of dozens of Israeli soldiers and civilians. He was partly responsible for the construction of the extensive system of Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip. Unofficially, it was Deif who assisted in planning and then led a significant part of the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October.
As Deutsche Welle reports, it is believed that he survived seven assassination attempts. However, he was seriously injured during them, reportedly losing an eye, a foot, and part of an arm. Several members of his family were killed in attacks aimed at Deif. Deif never appeared publicly. His only known photo is from 2000. For years, it is said he spent each night in a different house to protect himself from Israeli attacks.
