Islamic State claims deadly ambush on Niger soldiers, highlights growing Sahel influence
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack on Niger soldiers. The assault resulted in the death of 30 soldiers, as reported by jihadists. The victims were ambushed.

On Wednesday near the village of Teguey in southwestern Niger, a military convoy was ambushed. According to the defence ministry's statement, 23 soldiers were killed, and 17 were injured. Approximately 30 attackers were killed.
The Islamic State, through its agency Al-Amaq, admitted to carrying out the attack. They reported that 30 soldiers of the Niger army were killed as a result of the attack.

Jihadists are gaining strength in the Sahel regions. The unstable political situation in many areas does not help combat them. Recently, there have been military coups in Niger, Mali, or Burkina Faso.
The Islamic State Province of the Sahel was formed in 2015. Today, it is the most powerful part of the organization. The group controls some territories in Mali among others.
