According to "Fakt," at the Web Summit in Lisbon, Vasco Pedro, the CEO of Unbabel, announced the launch of the translation tool Widn.AI. This company is also developing the Tower model, which allows for precise translations without human intervention.

The company asserts that owing to this advanced AI technology, translators could become redundant within three years. Widn.AI has the capability to independently translate into 32 languages.

Will translators become unnecessary?

Pedro acknowledged that while humans currently have an advantage in complex cases, this gap is narrowing. Unbabel plans to raise between £16 million and £41 million to further develop Widn.AI, which will help remain competitive in a market dominated by Google Translate and DeepL.

According to Pascal, automation is expected to increase the volume of translated content, even though revenue per word might decline.

Fear of losing jobs to artificial intelligence

As reported by WP Finanse, in 2023, as many as 21% of employees feared losing their positions due to artificial intelligence. This is according to the "Labour Market Monitor" study prepared by Randstad. Cashiers and salespeople, office and administrative workers, and unskilled labourers felt the most at risk.
