Iran plots drone and missile strike on Israel via Iraq

Iran is preparing to launch an attack on Israel in the coming days, potentially before the US presidential elections, Axios reported on Thursday, citing Israeli intelligence sources. The attack may be initiated from Iraqi territory.

According to Israeli intelligence, Tehran plans to use Iraqi territory to conduct the attack using a large number of drones and ballistic missiles.

The Axios portal indicates that Iran may deploy pro-Iranian militias operating in Iraq, which would allow it to avoid a direct Israeli response on its territory. This strategy aims to reduce the risk of further Israeli airstrikes on strategic targets in Iran.

It should be noted that last week, Israeli air forces conducted retaliatory strikes on Iranian targets in response to Tehran's rocket attack from four weeks ago. As a result of these attacks, a significant part of Iran's air defence, including many radar stations, was destroyed, hindering Iran's ability to carry out further missile attacks on Israel.
