In Poland, there are few flowers that attract attention as strongly as hydrangeas. These extremely elegant plants are becoming increasingly popular among professional gardeners and amateurs of beautiful gardens. However, many people still forget about their autumn pruning and hydrangea propagation, which can result in years of joy from the abundance of these beautiful flowers.
Garden hydrangeas - how to propagate?
To achieve this, we should start propagating garden hydrangeas at the beginning of September. How to do it? It's very simple because all you need to do is locate and then remove the young and still green shoots. We can easily distinguish them from the older ones, which are characteristically woody.
Place the prepared "cuttings" in a pot with soil. Remember not to leave them in full sun, as they prefer a slightly shaded but still warm place. If everything is done correctly, we should enjoy new garden hydrangeas by September!
How to propagate panicle hydrangeas?
We need to take a slightly different approach to propagating panicle hydrangeas. In this case, a sharp garden pruner will come in handy. Use it to cut the stem. Then, remove most of the lower leaves so the plant can fully focus on root development rather than maintaining unnecessary leaves.
It's also worth remembering that in September, you should prune old flowers as well. This will allow the hydrangea to better prepare for the upcoming winter and the first frosts.
